    The Emanuel Fried New Play Workshop

    Dedicated to supporting playwrights in the development of scripts with strong production and performance values. It is named for RLTP favorite and one of our region's most respected original playwrights Emanuel "Manny" Fried.

    Each year up to ten participants are selected to meet twice a month to craft their newest play in an atmosphere of peer support and guidance. At the end of the development cycle, each work is given a public staged reading featuring Western New York's leading talent to test the audience-readiness of the piece.

    The workshop is led by Workshop Director Kyle LoConti and Literary Director Jon Elston.

    Composition of participating playwrighting will be as follows:

    * FOUR (4) FIRST-TIME PARTICIPATING PLAYWRIGHTS
    Writers who have never participated in the Workshop prior to 2010.

    * THREE (3) RETURNING SECOND-YEAR PLAYWRIGHTS
    Writers who participated in the previous year (2009) and either want to continue to develop their play from their previous year or want to return with a new play.
    Note: Beginning in 2010, playwrights may apply for participation in two consecutive Workshops before being asked to take a one-year sabbatical.

    * THREE (3) RETURNING FIRST-YEAR PLAYWRIGHTS
    Writers who have participated in past Workshops (prior to 2009).

    Criteria for acceptance into the New Play Workshop is as follows:

    2.) The participating playwright must reside in the Western New York area OR be able to reliably commute to each meeting. If in doubt, please refer to the following diagram for reference.
