Katie Mallinson, Literary Manager

Ms. Mallinson oversees RLTP’s Literary Department including but not limited to: National and Regional playwright residencies; Education and Outreach activities; and new script application management. She will coordinate and provide dramaturgical support for RLTP’s season, including supervision of Literary Assistants and Interns and collaboration with the Education Coordinator on outreach and marketing initiatives for the company.

Jon Elston, New Play Coordinator

Mr. Elston administers new play initiatives including Regional Residencies, 10-Minute Play Productions, and Buffalo Stories (annual fundraiser). His work includes play evaluation and selection, organizing staged readings and workshops, and providing dramaturgical support to playwrights.

Michele Holden, Education Coordinator

Michele Holden, Education Coordinator

Ms. Holden spearheads audience discussions, pre- or post-, including curating and moderating of Off-Book Series. In conjunction with her discussion series, she also develops supplemental materials for audiences, assist in outreach initiatives, and assist with creation of supporting resources for production..

2019 Regional Playwright Resident Derek Roland


Road Less Traveled Productions’ (RLTP) 
2019 Regional Playwright Residency has been awarded to Derek Roland for development of his work Waist Deep. The residency will begin January 1st and culminate in a staged reading of his work at the end of 2019. As Regional Playwright Resident, Mr. Roland will have opportunities to work with actors, directors, and designers to develop his work in progress in consultation with the RLTP Literary Department.

Mr. Roland is a writer, director, choreographer, performer, and arts educator originally from Rochester, NY, as well as a graduate of Niagara University’s Theatre Department (BFA in Theatre Studies). He is a long-standing company member of 3-time Drama Desk nominated Parallel Exit Theatre Company, and has worked Off-Broadway, on multiple national and international tours, and in New York at City Center, Town Hall, and New Victory. He recently completed the MSc Playwriting Program at the University of Edinburgh where he was awarded the William Hunter Sharpe Memorial Scholarship for playwriting. His plays include The Exhibit; Waist Deep; Peace and Quiet; as well as various other works in progress. His original rock musical Pie Eaterwas a Next Link selection for the NYMF 2016, and he wrote and composed an original piece in collaboration with Kate Garcia (Hamilton) for the International Human Rights Festival in 2017.

RLTP 10-Minute Play Fest

The RLTP 10-Minute Play Fest showcases area playwrights annually and world-premieres their ten-minute plays.


American Theatre Masters

Occasionally, Road Less Traveled Production selects an American drama of great merit – generally one previously unseen in WNY – and produces it as an American Theatre Master selection. A high-profile theatre artist closely associated with that play (usually the author) is then invited to visit the Road Less Traveled Theater during the run of the production. Our American Theatre Master presides over a lengthy afternoon Master Class session with RLTP’s New Play Workshop playwrights, Ensemble, and area students, enjoys an evening performance of their play.
